“It’s loud,” Jenni said, “and there are lots of distractions. It’s not love time.”  The distractions, at least for her, included the four car-air-fresheners hanging from sconces and shelves – “If you like the smell of the restaurant,” she continued, “it’s not natural.” Our next distraction was margarita-flavored, which were good (his mango better than her raspberry).  And then we were distracted by the appetizers – chips with homemade guacamole, and “Hell’s Kitchen” jalapeno poppers - which, Jenni said, “were a delight in her mouth.”  We were just as pleased with our tacos – one steak and one shrimp for him, one steak and one veggie for her.  Jenni declared that “this was the best steak taco of her life,” followed by a whispered, “I’ve never had a steak taco before.”  As we ate, Jenni was again mesmerized by the leafy, jungle-like wallpaper (to the point if making pushing-leaves-aside pantomimes); soon, though, she was distracted by the bumping music (to the point of doing a little dance at the table).

We are leaving 2nd Ave!

After more than two years of eating at over fifty restaurants on Manhattan’s East Side… We are moving to the West Side!

Brandon and Jenni started Jenni’s List as a fun, non-foodie, food guide.  We were based in Murray Hill, but now that we have tasted all that forty NYC blocks have to offer (AND we found a new apartment), we are about to take on 9th Avenue!  We hope that you will join us on this new adventure through Midtown West!

Here we go…

A+, a Thai place, was an NKOTB for Jenni’s list, having opened well after we passed 53rd St.  A plus for A+ was their BYOB policy, which drew such a crowd that, by the end of our meal, left the small restaurant SRO.  As we waited for our B’s to be opened, Jenni noted, “It’s really white in here”, before clarifying, “the walls, I mean.”  But she did like the lighting, the “space window,” and the eclectic clientele.  We started with the crab rangoon appetizer, her reponse to which was that she “loved these little treats!”  His tom kha was also delicious, although apparently the word for “shrimp” in Thai is “chicken.”  And we enjoyed our entrees – spicy noodles with chicken for her, chicken green curry for him – too, though Jenni did have to take a sweat break after having “a big chunka chunk of spicy.”  (Minutes later, Jenni was still gulping down more of the B we had B, saying “FML, FML!”)

P.S. Despite the five alarm fire, we were still glad we came here to FTJ (Feed The Jenni)!
